Loans to Belarus contingent on privatization - Kudrin
NOVO-OGAREVO. May 27 (Interfax) - The privatization of major Belarusian enterprises is a condition for a EuraAsEc loan to Minsk, Deputy Russian Prime Minister Alexei Kudrin, who is also the Russian finance minister, told reporters.
"The thing is, privatization is one of the main sources of foreign currency, and foreign currency is needed to support the balance of payments and solve the foreign currency problems in Belarus," Kudrin said.
"Not privatizing would mean not getting this foreign currency and so not solving these problems, the Belarusian problems. So of course this [privatization] is one of the conditions for the loan being issued," he said.
